Automatic Self-Playing Glockenspiel

This 25-note real Glockenspiel plays by itself from an internal disk player and synthesizer.

This synthesizer is amplified and sent to a speaker system (not shown in photo) to produce an orchestrated accompaniment.

Since the glock and synthesizer are MIDI-controlled, one could also play it from any MIDI keyboard.

Rousing marches, poignant waltzes, and even old ragtime arrangements (taken from actual player piano rolls) can be played.

This instrument has been seen locally at fairs and festivals for several years now. It is enjoyed by all, young and old.

Materials used for this project:Poplar, hardwood balls, heavy duty solenoids, Degan steel glock bars, MIDI controller, gear motor.
